I have a 1966 merc650se motor. It has a 2 lever throttle control. The cables were cracked and rusted on the inside so I have new ones now and I was wondering, where the cables hook into the motor, you have one on top of the other, the top one works the carb and the bottom works the forward reverse,(I think),the bottom cable, and they are the barrel fittings that slide down fairly tight in place then have a pin that goes through them to hold them, then it has the part of the cable that actually moves when you're moving the levers,it has a little wire end looking fitting that on the bottom cable just sits on a little fitting that slides horizontally thats attached to my motor. There is nothing there to hold it in place,I think the top cable which has a bolt and nut at its end will pretty much hold it down but this does not seem right to me.Does anyone know if it is,are both cables supposed to be locked in place by something. Thanks in advance for your time.
