Let me know how this works out, I'm having the same trouble. I relplace all the fuel filters and little improvement, but still boggs out @ high RPMS.

Re: Mercr 2.5L loss of power on acceleration

after what the mechanic said on the phone, he said, check the timing, set it to its specified degrees, which is 8 degrees BTDC on mine. Then futs around with the idle mixture screws till it speeds up and evens out. Supposedly then it would be perfect.

Well, I did both, but I think I screwed up the idle mixture screws. I looked at my SELOC manual, and all it says is " turn the screws in all the way till they seat, then back them out 1 1/2 turns for your initial setting"

Ok, did that, now what.

It runs like mud right now with those settings, so something is goofy

Re: Mercr 2.5L loss of power on acceleration

I was told to do the same thing with mine, I was told to adjust the fuel first by turning it a 1/2 turn until it sounds the best then adjust the air adjustment until that sounds good. Then bingo it should work great, I'm a little worried myself since i had never done this. This is the procedure I was told to follow by an old gearhead. Good luck, and you can let me know if it works.

well, I think my problem is the float level and I cannot FIND one thing out there to get a measurement for the float level. I don't want to keep bending it back and forth till its right, thats time consuming. just give me a number!

My brothers boat is doing the exact same thing. Turns out that the problem he had was the distributor shaft being worn, it had side-to-side play and was making the fly weights for the mechanical advance to dance around under load. Hope this helps you out.

its been fixed, accelerator pump arm needed to be adjusted, and some time messing with the idle mixture screws and the timing.
