Mercruise stalls when put into gear

Help!! I have a 1994 Pro 202 with a 485 mercruise that runs great planes off but when we stop and and shut off the engine and after restarting and put into gear it stalls. After some time goes by it will go again so not sure what the problem is. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

could be:

-shift cable worn and causing shift interrupt switch to improperly engage
-carburetor/fuel supply issue(s)
-ignition issue(s)
-etc.....

have you performed any routine maintenance lately?

I’m thinking like you that it maybe the shift cable or carb issue. Thanks and I’ll update later

How much time goes by before it will run again? Kind of sounds like mine was doing, after about 1 1/2 hours it would run again. Mine turned out to be vapor locking.

Probably 30 minutes or so to a beach and it will stall but will start back up but when I go to put it in gear it will stall again and it will do this for a while before it goes again

Sounds different than mine.. I may be wrong, but I think you can bypass the shift interrupter, just for troubleshooting. You probably need someone more knowledgeable to chime in on that...
