I am trying to replace the magnetic pulse generator (ignition coil) on a Mecruiser 135 HP Alpha One engine. How do you get the timer core removed to replace the coil under it?

Timer core? is that the rotor if so you need to break it off it is glued on from the factory.

It is not the rotor. This is metal and is located under the rotor. The rotor comes off easily. I am trying to get to the ignition coil which is located under this timer core. (That's what it is called in the manual I found online.)

The Clymer manual I had and the online info didn't say anything about the removal of the pickup coil in the Delco EST distributor (2002 Mercruiser Alpha I, 135 HP). So I looked at the parts breakdown and decided that you have to remove the distributor to replace the coil. The pickup coil was included in the parts when I asked the dealer to give me all that I needed for a comprehensive tuneup. Seems like a lot of trouble for a tuneup. Just remember to replace the thin gasket between the bottom of the distributor housing and the block.

On a Delco EST distributor, the only parts that gets replaced during a tuneup is the cap and rotor. NOT the pulse generator, nor sensor.
