I replaced my Ignition Coil on my Mercruise 140. The old coil didn't need a resistor. The new Coil from Sierra Marine does. What is a resistor? How can i install one? Is that why my engine does not turn on? Thanks

Re: Mercruiser 140 Ignition Coil Question

Howdy,

Do you have a service manual for that engine?

Since you're going to replace that coil it might be a good idea to have a look at the following article also.....
http://autorepair.about.com/cs/generalinfo/a/aa052502a.htm

Also, if you don't have service manual for your engine go to the following link (right click on the link and select "SAVE-AS" to your desktop or other folder/thumb-drive etc.) http://www-alt.mercurymarine.com/mnetdata/SERVICE/CRUISER/Servmanl/7/7cov.pdf

It's a PDF so you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it.

It's also a large file (568mb) so it will take a while if you have cable internet (A LOOOONG while if you have DSL and forget it if you have a dialup:eek:......have someone else get it for you !!)

The service manual should indicate if you have a a resistor wire connected to the present coil.

Cheers,

Rick
