Hello all, went out this morning to start the boat before taking it out for the 1st time this year and found a problem. Im not sure if this would be considered the intake or the exhaust manifold but it is the on that the carb bolts to. My problem is that the manifold has about a 5 inch crack and its pouring water out of it. I am assuming that I didnt get all of the water out of it when I put it up for winter. My question is,can I just weld the crack up and be done with it. Has any body been in this situation and welded it up with any luck. Thanks in advance.

It's both the intake and exhaust manifold. Welding the crack may not cure the inside part that you can't see.<br />My suggestion, if it cracked at all, anyplace, replace it or later on it will cost you an engine if the other crack you can't see starts leaking.

are you talking about leaking to the crank case? I plan on having it magnafluxed and pressure tested after welding it.I have seen a couple of post where a v8 manifold has been welded and have a good luck with it. Just checking to see if any one has done it on a 140.

Basically, it boils down to the old adage...... pay me now or pay me later. Only problem is that usually the "pay me later" part is a whole lot more expensive.

Either way, I cant seem to get it loose from the block. I have taken every thing off that is connected to it and every bolt that I can see that holds it to the block. Is there something that I cant see. The motor is a 1981 140 mercruiser.

By the way, I have a manifold for sale on eBay off a '95 3.0 engine. The manifold has 30 hours on it. ntheyer@gmail.com
