Well I may have really done it this time. During the attempt to repair the water pump (in lower unitl) I was having trouble separating the lower from the upper. I got the four screws and the trim tab... Well, it wouldn's come apart to I thought a rubber mallot would do the trick. I thought is was coming off nice and then... CRACK! ****! Oh NO!!!!! In one hand I was holding the mallot and in the other hand i was holding pot metal where the trim tab would mount. It is only the rear, but it seems to ba a critical part. I was thinking maybe to JB weld it, but maybe there is a better way? This is way bad and is really going to set me back, as this thing is from the late 60s. Any ideas or help or whatever would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!! Hell, a new drive unit would be fine by me if anyone is giving them away! haha.

Well, I found that nut... and I separated the units. The hidden allen and the front nut threw me off. Damn though, any thoughts on how to re attach my broken piece of transom trim tab mount?

find a good welder that works with aluminum. should cost about $50-100 for the welding

It's good aluminum,it's just really old. Let the welder put it back together, then file down the welds, sand it flat, prep it right, prime it and paint it.

i was planning on doing a test run this weekend, and there wont be enough time to fine a welder. do you think a saltwater run would really matter? I do not know much about aluminum welding. Boy there sure are a lot of little setbacks. easy to get discouraged. Yikes
