Im going to be replacing the head gasket on my engine (mercruiser 165 4 cyl).

Ive read nothing but the fact that these engines tear up head gaskets, and so I am wondering if anyone has ever found a metal skeleton based head gasket for it to help with the gaskets blowing up?

Engine is cooling ok now, but I just want to use the best part possible.

If there is no such thing, is there some superior version of it available compared to the OEM part?

S# of engine is B577492

Thanks!

Nope, head gaskets to fit a Ford 460 Truck work fine, the trick is the re-torque after it has been run. you need to make sure the bolt threads are clean and run a tap into all the head bolt holes

You're talking about an OEM 'shim' type head gasket? Should be available

Ill do that, that's good advice. Thanks!

Yeah thats what im looking for. Its like a metal shim that has the gasket moulded around it. The metal should only be exposed in a rings showing around the pistons. Ive seen them on other engines but cant find one for a mercruiser 165 which seems to be prone to killing head gaskets. I think this would really reinforce the gasket and stop them from tearing in between pistons.
