The boat has a Sierra 24 micron filter on it now but came with a new 10 micron as a spare. Is it ok to use the 10 micron or should I stick to the 24 that's on it now? We left the gas cap off and ran it all day so thought we might have gotten water in the tank. Checked the filter but it didn't have any water in it. It did have some crap in it so figured I'd change it. Is the 10 ok? Also the 24 is a long filter and the 10 is a short one. Does that matter as well?

The 10 will be fine, if it fits the housing properly. I prefer to run a 10 myself, it catches finer debris.

Filtration and water separation are two different functions, so you will be fine.

Also, a fuel water separator Will remove small amounts of water, but any large amount will pass through to the crab or injectors.

Very good point !! I don't think a lot of readers understand that, when they have a water problem they just add or replace the filter. Perhaps this could be posted in an area more likely to be seen by our regular readers. Thanks for posting.

Ayuh,..... That's where the depth of the canister comes into play,....

Gravity drops the water outa the fuel,....
The element stops the crud,....

When the canister is full of water, it passes on to the fuel pump, 'n carb,...
