Hey guys, working on restoring the '70 Sportcraft...

To replace stringers, engine mounts, and transom, we've pulled the pre-alpha Mercruiser 165 inline 6 and the outdrive. The gimbal bearing housing is still attached to the transom and we obviously need to get it off.

The Seloc manual is saying we have to remove (and replace) and gimbal bearing to remove the gimbal housing but is this really necessary? The gimbal bearing removal tool is over $300 and even home made ones on ebay are over $150. The tools to reassemble aren't nearly as expensive (eyeroll).

Thanks in advance

Nope,... Just unbolt the studs,+ split the whole thing off the transom....
And,...
Ditch the Seloc,...
The factory manuals are up in the Adults Only section...

I actually posted this for Brian last night. He's one of my best buddies and I'm helping him out 3 nights a week.

Thanks Bond-o. Will ditch the Seloc though I know from experience that it's better than the clymer's (lol).
