all right so ive had a few boats with out boards but i took the leap this weekend into a 1976 sea ray srv 180 with a 165hp mercruiser inboard. now it hasnt been run in a few years so the first thing that comes to mind is to change the oil. now this is where my stupid question comes into play. i can not find an oil drain plug on the bottom of this motor, anyone know have any idea where it is?

Ayuh,.... Generally speakin',.... Wet sump inboard, 'n I/O motors get their oil sucked out through the dipstick tube.....

It saves alota oil spillage into the bilge....

Re: mercruiser 165 hp oil change?

I had the same problem on the 1986 Mercruiser 170 I just purchased. It has a plug that should have had a valve and hose installed from the factory but didnt and was stuck so I ordered a new Mercruiser pump for the dip tube and the flippen hole in it was a hair to small to go over my tube so I had to drill out most of the brass (now paper thin) to get it over my tube far enough to tread on. but it works well just wish it wouldve straight out the box.
