mercruiser 165 hp screw drive

looking at putting a mercruiser 165hp inline 6 in my 1939 port carling seabird, is there a way to adapt my buchanan tranny to mercruiser motor?

depends.....

was your old buchanan transmission flywheel mounted or crank snout mounted to the motor? is there a jack shaft in between?

the 250 cubic inch inline 6 chevy has the same flywheel housing pattern and crank snout as the V8's

the buchanan runs off the nose of the crank, so would any tranny/gear box that comes off a small block chev that's run off the front or nose of the crank fit the mercruiser 165?

Yes. GM wasnt creative with their crank snouts or bolt patterns.

No but chris-craft and others were. 2 same engines just 1 turned completely around with adaptation to function. Do some research in the antique section. Maybe someone can point you the right direction.
