mercruiser 180hp, 4.3lx alpha 1

Hi,
i just bought a boat with the engine - mercruiser 180hp, 4.3lx alpha 1, petrol.
I am changing the battery and starter to be serviced.

one question, may i know can i start the engine onshore (not submerse in water) ? or i have to dip the stern drive in the water?

You can start it onshore but you need a hose and clamshells (muffs) to provide the engine with water for cooling and so that you don't burn up the impeller
