Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard....

To answer your question,.... None...
Carbs Absolutely Must be of Marine rating to be used on a Boat motor....

It's not that bad of a job to rebuild that carb. I have done one for my boat and one for a friend. Buying a new one, well that's pretty expensive, but the rebuild kits are pretty reasonable.

Everything that Bond-o said plus this..... the 3.0L was never used in a car. So you won't find an automotive equivilent. You may find something that used a 2GC if you looked hard enough... but it won't be set up right.

can anyone tell me if getting the rebuild kit ,is just replacing the jets, gaskets and such. or is there more complicated tasks along with the rebuild kit. i have done them in motorcycles. trying to see if i can do this, or have it done by somone in a shop. thanks.

Re: Mercruiser 3.0 carb

Its a breeze to rebuild, I rebuilt mine earlier this year. Its a very simple 2 barrel carb, and yes the rebuild is literally just replacing gaskets and the jets, then making sure the float is correct position, etc. The kit will have everything u need and instruactions as well, it was my first carb I've ever rebuilt and it only took a few hours, and I took my time at it too.

There were a few different carbs used on the 3.0 though, a MerCarb and a Rochester. They are essentially the same carb, but w a few differences and the kits ARE NOT interchangeable, so you have to look at the carb and get the serial numbers off of it to determine which exact carb you have. I found the kit cheapest though iBoats actually, and I checked many, many sources.

Potatoe,

I come from a bike background as well. Figured if I could rebuild and balance a four carb bike, a single boat carb should be easy. And it was. Same procedure, make sure you know where all the parts came from, keep things clean and be careful.

You can do this!

Re: Mercruiser 3.0 carb

just a quick history lesson for those who say the 3.0l was never used in cars, open a chevy history book...... the 3.ol also know as the iron duke was used in some chevy novas in the early years of nova, it is also used in some fork lifts.... as far as the carb is consernend you will find the buick v6 in the mid 70's used the same carb as your carb on the 3.0l..... trust me i have one in my 3.0l. fact it performs better and uses less fuel then the factory marine carb.. just me two cents

Buy a Merc. carb kit. I have heard people using Sierra's only to have to "rebuild" it again with a Merc. kit.

I spent the Xtra 30 bucks for the Merc. kit and my 2BBL Mercarb is a black beauty now that runs my 4.3L smooth through it's entire RPM range.
