Hi, I am installing my main bearings and I am not sure wich way the lower bearing halves supposed to be.. Should the "shoulders" be at same side or opposite sides with the upper side bearing halves? The bearing brackets have an arrow and I think the arrow should be pointing to the nr. 1 cylinder. Then the shoulders are at same side, but in the rear bearing the shoulders are opposite sides, and this bracket can't be installed wrong because it has the rear seal.

PLS HELP!

Man! It sounds like your in big trouble! The bearing caps MUST go back in the exact the same position and rotation that they came from. If you know what position they were in from front to rear, then you are OK. The locating tab on the lower bearing is positioned opposite the one on the upper half.
If you are not 100% sure were you took the caps off of, the only way to tell is to match up any marks left were the caps touch the block. Machining marks or stains. I say again, they MUST go back in the same positions.
Next time mark every thing before you take it apart!
I hope you are changing the rest of the bearings and the oil pump also.

Shoot! I just reread my last post and the locating tabs should be opposite rotation which puts them on the SAME side. Arrows pointing forward.

Yes, now the arrows are pointing forward, to the nr. 1 cylinder, and all the tabs are on the same side. The rear cap, with the crankshaft seal can't be installed wrong and I took a look of it, and the tabs are on the same side on it. Same thing with the rest of the caps.

Yes I am changing all the bearings and oil pump also, everything is going to be new.

Thanks!!!!

While you have the engine out change the camshaft bearings.Make sure you clean out all of the oil passages and blow them out with compressed air.

Yes, new cam bearings are installed. I bought a kit that includes all bearings, gaskets, piston rings etc..
