Hi, all so after nearly two years I have my new engine in, and thought i'd wired it all properly.
Unfortunately I had to use the wiring harness from my 84 engine on my 92 engine but we switched the ignition over so it should be good.

The only thing i cant figure out is when i turn the key the gauges come to life, when i turn the key off the gauges drop.
When i turn the key more it cranks the starter motor, the trouble is when i release the key the starter doesn't stop cranking. I have to cut the power to stop it.

I hope its not relevent but I also had to switch over the starter solenoid from a new starter that I know works with this engine. (so i have my 84 starter with a 92 starter solenoid but im sure they are the same and it cranks fine)

Why isnt the starter stopping when I turn the key to off?

This wire, the heavy yellow/red goes to the small lug closest to the engine . The purple W/ yellow stripe goes to the outer most small lug away from the motor
