Hello,
I recently bought a new Tahoe Q4 boat that came with a 2009 MerCruiser 3.0 TKS engine. I also just purchased a Lowrance HDS8 chartplotter and I'm exploring any possibilities for integrating my engine to the HDS8 via NMEA 2000.
I know that the 3.0 TKS is an entry level engine and thus does not support SmartCraft out of the box. From what research I have done online and in the installation manual that came with the engine I've determined that everything is setup with analog sensors and senders for my helm. I have all analog gauges (QuickSilver I think) fed to the helm from the engine through what is referred to as a 14-pin Deutsch round harness. I also traced the wiring up to the helm where there is a 9-pin harness there as well that carries the tach, oil, temp and so forth.
My question is are there any good plug-n-play electronic devices out there that can connect in-line to one of these harnesses to sample the data and send it over NMEA 2000?
I've done some online research and found these two possibilities:
1. Albatross On Board Module
This one looks like I'd have to wire it in by hand wire by wire but may work with any engine.
2. Maretron Analog Engine Monitoring System
This looked promising, but everything I read is that it's only got one harness kit and that's for the Yanmar (sp?) engine.
Does anyone have any experience with doing this type of setup on this kind of engine? If so, please recommend any integration/monitoring products that I haven't already described above.
I already have a fuel flow sensor that is made by Lowrance since that's not going to be part of any of the instrumentation on my boat already. I can set that up no problem, but I'd of course like to get all the data if I can.
The engine model number is 4-111025U U and the serial number is 1A605400 in case that is useful to anyone.
Thanks!
