Mercruiser 3.0 TKS running rough

Finally got the boat out onto the water this past weekend. I started it up just fine on the muffs in the yard to clean it out and let it run for 10 minutes or so. Turned it off and waited a minute and started it right back up fine.

Get out on the water and she starts fine at 1st. Go cruising around, find a fishing spot, fish for a while. Go to start it up and she sputters and wants to stall and maybe will. I may have to start her quite a few times and keep the RPM's high or it'll stall out again and again and again. She doesn't want to slip into neutral without stalling.

Sometimes if I'm moving right along it will bog right down. This happened a couple times late last season also.

Now I'll go start it in the yard before the next time we go out and she'll start fine again. then act up on the water.

Any ideas where I should begin to look?

could this be fuel related? fuel filter or water in the tank? i have a full tank of fuel from last year that i put stabil in. of course last years fuel has some of the previous years fuel in it to.

if it's water how would i check? i know i would have to siphon alot of gas to get the water out but what about after the fuel starts coming through after the waters done? is that good fuel? or do i have to drain the entire tank?

Ayuh,... Try runnin' it on a remote fuel tank,....

Have ya checked, 'n changed the fuel filters,..??

no i haven't checked or changed anything yet. just trying to get an idea how to diagnose it. if it was dirty fuel/water clogging the filter would it settle back into the tank after a week or so so it would start fine the next time then get stirred up and back into the filter and cause the issue?

how would i go about draining and cleaning the tank? could i siphon from the line that goes from the tank to the filter? cleaning??? the tank is under the sitting area so i don't know of a way to access it. the boat is a 2008 glastron gt185.

could you suggest a good repair manual? something like a haynes manual like i use for my truck.

kinda ticked because i was told to fill the tank with fuel and stabil before winterizing. now i read my manual and it says if using alcohol gasoline to drain the tank and put stabilizer in. so i have close to 23 gallons of fuel which honestly i wouldn't come close to using in a season.
