I have a 1995 Maxum sr 1800 w/a 3.0l mercuiser that I believe pushes either 125 or 135 hp. I have wake-boarded w/other boats but I don't know if this would be able to handle it.

If it can and it's okay, any ideas of the weight the tower should not exceed?

Thanks in advance,

Elton (1st time boat owner)

Its got nothing to do with the motor. Go peak around the monster tower wesbite, you can likely find a pic of your exact boat with a tower on it.

Actually, the engine does play a significant role in it. Your 3.0 will be ok as long as you put the right prop on it, but whenever you hit rough water or the wakeboarder leans against the rope to cut across the wake it's going to slow down the boat significantly and make it harder to board. Just try wakeboarding without the tower for a while to see if it's worth spending the extra money on. A tower doesn't do much for a beginner anyway

I have a 1989 fourwinns with a 3.0l motor and a monster tower on it. When I first got the boat it had a 19" pitch 3 blade prop. It would pull you out of the water but you could tell someone was back there. I changed it to a 17" 4 blade prop. Now that did wonders:). It would jurk you right out of the water with little effort.

The weight of the tower won't effect you, as they are quite light weight. If the boat will do what you need power/speed wise as it is then I'd say go for it with the tower. If its questionable now I would agree with the above poster to not waste the money. The tower won't make the forces on the boat any different plus it will add a bit of weight. If you do end up going with the tower make sure you don't pull tubes with it, I know alot of people may disagree but there can be MAJOR problems if the tube submarines and you don't back off the throttle in time. I saw it first hand at a local lake last year it was unbelievable the damage that boat incurred. Most tower mfg's wont warrant their product if you are pulling tubes, they also have warning labels all over them to NOT pull tubes. I like my boat in one piece too much to risk it for a tube.

Even if it won't help with performance a lot, it will help get the boards off the floor of the boat, which is the primary reason I am thinking of getting one.
