I have a 97 mercruiser 3.0lx with alpha ii, its in a pontoon boat. My problem is when i shift to forward it shift fines and then starts to rev up. but in reverse it seems like it starts to rev up before it shifts causeing it to shift hard. I have tried to adjust it, but no help. If someone has ideas that would be great. also if you have a way to adjust it that may help that would be worth triing to. thanks everyone this site is great.

Ayuh,... That's kinda hard to believe... Ya sure it ain't an Alpha, Gen.II,..??

My guess is, the lower shift cable is Shot,+ needs replacing...

Up in the adults only sticky are factory merc manuals for both the engine and drive. You need the serial numbers and can download for free. Adjustments and replacing the cable etc are all there.
