Dear All,

I have a Maxum2300SC with a 5.7 Mercruiser (2BBL). I would like to replace the engine by a 350 MAG MPI or a 6.2 MPI. The Alpha One must be replaced in both cases too, right?
As I have only poor connections to USA I would like to know whether one of you has a good tip for buying an engine in the US. Does anyone of you can help? I am not looking for new engines, that would be too expensive I think. So engines up to 200-300 hours are also interesting.

Thanks!

Regards,
Lars

you can reuse the alpha drive with the 350mag. The 6.2 you will need a bravo.

You can get away with the Alpha behind the 6.2 also, as long as you are nice to it. Gear ratio may be a problem with either, since they'll both have way more HP than you 2bbl 5.7. You might end up with a really high pitched prop (which gets a little hard to find) in the 25" to 27" range.

You can re-use the Alpha up to 300 hp (the 350 MPI) after that you'll need a Bravo to be safe or take your chances with the alpha. Mercruiser will only warranty new alphas up to 300 hp and if you put more than that on a used alpha with some hours on it I think you'd be taking your chances. Since you are out of the country you might try contacting Mercruiser direct at:

Mercury Marine and see if they have any suggestions on where to purchase. Without any contact here to verify the integrity of the seller I think you'd be rolling the dice.
