Mercruiser 350 Magnum Inboard Help

Hey guys, I have a 1998 Sanger 20 DLX with a Mercruiser 350 Magnum in it. Here is the story. Switched out the battery to the boat and hooked it up backwards (dumb I know). Went to start the boat and nothing obviously, tried a few times and nothing. Found the backwards connection and fixed it.

Switched out the ignition and the fuse. From here I don't know what else to check. Friend was trying to get the starter to kick over by putting a screwdriver on the posts and arc it. Nothing. I want to know where to go from here. I figure there are fuses on the engine, starter, solenoids, etc. Anyones help is greatly appreciated

What does that mean? You replaced the ignition module? Was the fuse open?



Is this an MPI engine? Or carbed?

What's the serial number? This might be important because 98 models are Mercruiser manual #24 and if it's a 97 it could be #17

Yeah......maybe....you may be replacing the ignition module and/or the EFI "computer" although well designed electronic equipment is usually reverse polarity protected.

Yes I replaced the ignition module and the 10 amp fuse was blown. The engine is carbed, I'll have to check later today for the serial number for you Rick. Thanks for the quick response. I just didn't know how far back this power surge would of gone. Does this motor have fuse links? I am lead to believe fuse links stop polarity switch bursts. Also, the circuit breaker on the engine itself was never popped. What fail safes are there from the battery to the engine for this? What fuses do I need to check?

Will get more specs on the engine later today, my buddy owns the boat, just trying to do research
