My fuel pump isn't pumping after the key is turned on. I measured the voltage and its only getting 5.5v.

Question1 - It that the correct amount that it should be getting?

Question2 - I assume these pumps are noisy by nature like the others. even with 12v directly connected I don't hear anything. I believe the solution to be a new fuel pump. Agree? Thoughts?

Thanks,

I don't think it should have any power with just the key on if the engine is not running. With no oil pressure the oil pressure switch will be open, so no power to the fuel pump.

Where did you place the voltmeter leads when you measured it?

The fuel pump has two greens and a red. The two greens originate from the same green wire.

Do you have a serial number for this engine?

Better yet, post a picture of your fuel pump.

Stick your camera down in there aimed in the general direction and take some pictures till you get one you can read the number.

that is your fuel level sender ,not your fuel pump.

LOL well that might be why. I thought the fuel pump was attached to that from the inside of the tank.

I'm not saying this in a mean way, but if you don't know the difference between a fuel pump and a fuel gauge sender, then you need to find a mechanic that knows what he is doing.

I guess i'm lucky you are not being mean about it. I know the in's and out's with cars, I thought the fuel pump would be in the tank since its electric as it is with some cars.

This is my first boat and I came here to get a little knowledge about it, I found the fuel pump tucked in near the belt assembly. I attached the multimeter and turned it over, while its turning its getting voltage. Since I don't hear anything from the fuel pump I'll go with that being bad.

Thanks for you assistance Don

Then use your camera and get a serial number. Those engines have been used for years, and at this point we have no clue which one you have.
Even the year of the boat and if you have carbed or EFI might help some.
