How hard is it to swap a 454 mercruiser with a 383. It is a 1988 Liberator. Do they make a motor mount kit or do I even need one? Thanks for your help in advanced.

Nah, you don't need motor mounts.
The mounts are the same.
More important, what drive are you doing this to?

Last time I checked a 454 was a GM based engine and a 383 is a Chrysler. Completely different manufactures. So I would say Not interchangeable with out proper bellhousing.

If the 383 is a built Chev small block then you are OK.

Yeah,

That is somewhat profound...

383 might mean Chrysler to someone on a car website but here It can only mean stroked SBC.

You could easily put a 383 in a Liberator. My dream engine would be an aluminum 383 with aluminum heads, manifolds and risers in front of my Bravo III

But bolt a tricked 383 to an Alpha, and you best be nice to it lest you break it!

The following is from Marine Power Service.

383 CUBIC INCHES... 400 HORSEPOWER
6000 RPMs... 100% ATTITUDE!!
Barefooters, slalom skiers and wakeboarders will get a pure shot of adrenaline from this awesome remanufactured powerhouse! The perfect re-power option for tow boats presently using a 350 MAG MPI, 330 HP Black Scorpion or 454 MAG MPI. Applying our remanufacturing process to a MX 6.2 Black Scorpion, we have incorporated .030 over forged pistons, a more aggressive valvetrain and heavy-duty parts - creating a 400 horsepower juggernaut, matching anything found in a brand new boat!

Cheers,

Rick

Unless he's an idiot, he's talking about a 383 Chevy. They are quite popular these days. Even Mercruiser sells the reman 383MAG MPI as a replacement for 7.4s/454s

383 is a direct bolt in replacement for a 454. My dad installed one in my sister's boat, with no difficulties.
