Hi everyone,

A friend and I are working on a Mercruiser 470 engine (It already has the alternator kit and we are looking into getting the larger heat exchanger as well). We determined that it is getting fuel and spark; however the engine still will not start (cranks fine) and we think we have a timing issue. The firing order is written on the engine as 1-3-4-2. Does anyone know which wire on the distributor and which spark plug correspond to these numbers? Please see attached pictures.

Thanks a lot,

Jerry

#1 is the front plug.Dist is put in.Then turn the motor until the timing marks on the front align. Then see where your rotor is. Where the rotor points will be #1That will be very close or 180d out.Depending on the stroke cycle.
C is close to where #1 should be.Have you done a compreesion test.Do it just for fun!!!.Jerry
