Mercruiser 5.0 starting issue

I was trouble shooting a faulty oil sender and shorted wires behind the oil gauge.

After the incident the boat will not turn over, nothing when I try to start. I think I blew the circuit breaker on the motor, but cannot locate it.

The schematic for the boat shows a circuit breaker at the motor.

the boat is a 1999 chaparral 200LE mercruiser Alpha1 5.0, engine serial is OL327919.

Where is the breaker located on this boat?

It looks like a red button. Most mercruisers have it located on the top of the motor.

Be aware that if you accidentally shorted the ignition and sending unit wires together while the sending unit was plugged in you could have fried it as well.

Re: Mercruiser 5.0 starting issue

The manual says on your boat the ignition breaker is next to the starting key.

http://forum.chaparralboats.com/ownersManuals/1999.pdf

The schematic shows a breaker at the engine as well as a breaker at the helm. The boat does not have a breaker in the engine space. However, there is a 90 amp fuse located at the starter. This fuse appears to be blown.

We jumped the fuse and there is power at the ignition switch.

It turns out that this particular model does not have a breaker but instead has a 90 amp fuse located on the positive starter post.

Replaced the fuse and she starts.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I paid $80 dollars for one when stuck only to find out they sell for $25. Shop around. RR

Nope,

Breaker Is Not there. Bracket for the breaker is empty - never had a breaker in it. painted bracket near soliniod has never had screws in it. Probably a cost reduction. Replaced fuse she started right up. Ran her all day today without a hitch.

Schematic says it is there, but it is not.
