I have a 99 2g carbed 5.7 mercruiser that recently had to do a headgasket job to. Had the heads resurfaced and a little valve work done after reassembly engine fired right up and ran smooth. However idle is a liitle high and unstable checked the timing with light and dead on 10 degrees. Wondering is there a special procedure for accurate timing, on chevy trucks with similar engine I know there is a wire you have to unhook to keep it from advancing to check timing is there something similar on this or possibly just a carb idle issue? Please advise thanks in advance you people have always been most helpful

In your title, you say tbi v, with I assume you meant Thunderbolt V, as tbi stands for Throttle Body Injection, and you say it's carbed. SOOOOOOO, if you have the Thunderbolt V ignition, here is the procedure.
