Mercruiser 5.7l Carb Audible Alarm Problem

Mercruiser 5.7l carb, audible alarm test does not sound on key on unless the trim up/down button is pressed. Once pushed, alarm test sounds. Any easy areas to check wiring for this specific issue?

Don't have it now unfortunately but its a Mercury Reman Alpha 4v.

Read the title but a 14 carb, that just makes me say wow

So your issue is you want to hear the alarm when the key is turned ON?
If you turn the key ON and don't start, the alarm stays OFF?

Boat is a 98 Baja, engine was replaced in 2014. The alarm test when turning the key on but not starting does not work until hitting the trim button.

If you turn the key ON and do not start for 5 minutes does it turn ON?
