where is the sweet spot . Installed new transom and motor mount in 22'ft. Slyvan Offshore.I can find spline marks in grease on tool but removal takes a firm tug. Tried 1/4 turn at a time on adjustment screw . Maybe 1/8 turn?

Your probably in a slight twist, so one needs to go higher or lower then the other side

In that case your rear mounts might have moved an need replacing. What kind of spacing between transom plat and motor do you have

With on of these, part number 91-863372

Alignment 91-863372.jpg

Slides over the alignment bar, this pic shows the motor is high. As it gets closer, the gap reduces and if off on one side the gap will show a bit larger

If your front mounts aren't at the same height, this side to side twist can happen. My experience says a high front mount can push the engine to the opposite side. I engage my alignment tool into the coupler, but just short of engaging the gimbal brg. Then I orbit the tool around, and observe the clearance between the tool's gimbal bearing pilot and the bearing's bore. More clearance on top - lower the front mounts, more on bottom, raise. Wide on the left, lower the left mount, etc. If the visual gap is centered, but it still won't slurp in, the bearing may have been cocked during assy. Then use Bt Doctur 's pipe to tweak it into line.
