Mercruiser Alpha one gen 2 incredibly slow to trim up and down

I have a 95 23 ft Larson escapade with an Alpha one gen 2 dive on it and the trim systems seems to be moving incredibly slow to trim both up and down but its really bad trimming up.

I dont know much of the boats history but the fluid is milky and the anodes are very worn. I have not really worked on trim systems in the past so i am looking for some ideas on where to begin troubleshooting and what would be some causes to start ruling out. I would assume start with the fluid but would like to hear what you all have to say on this situation.

"Milky" indicates water intrusion and possibly a leak.

Hydraulic systems don't pump well with oil mixed with water because the pumps cannot produce as a high pressures with an emulsion of oil and water as it can with uncontaminated oil.

It may be just the presence of water reducing the operating pressure (if it's a "lot") . You also might be leaking enough to cause reduced pressures.

Or, the pump could just also be worn out.

The Mercury service manuals have rather simple procedures for checking the system for proper pressures and operation. If you want to work on it yourself, you will need to obtain the correct manual. several people here have access to online manuals.

Otherwise, you could just replace the pump (I have found a lot of them on ebay, new and used)

The trim pumps usually outlast the motors. If you have milky oil its most likely just a water leak. Check the outside hoses going to the trim pistons. Most likely they are corroded out causing your leak and need to be replaced. Merc manual covers how to replace them and replace the old milky oil. The system will self prime but takes a while as you keep needing to suck out milky oil and replace with new oil until all the water is out.
