Just to follow up. I ended up buying a new (used) lower from a guy parting out his boat for $400. It's on, works and haven't had any issues. Hopefully it will stay that way. Thank you all for your help and suggestions.

Did you service the seawater pump before installing the "new" lower???

Good call. Having your internals changed doesn't make economic sense. Either does JB Weld on an essentially split case.

Motogr, you need to start a new thread to ask a question. This one is from 2011. Once your on the mercruiser forum page click the tab above the first post from Don S that says "New Topic".
