This is the first year I've had to worry about winterization (first winter as a boat owner); I want to verify the steps I took.
boat is a '93 maxum 18' with a 4.3LX alpha.
boat was only used twice this summer since it's last winterization. weather around here rarely gets below freezing, but it will get to 28-29 once or twice this winter.
anyways, i'm mainly concerned with the water removal part of the process, so I want to verify this should prevent any freezing issues/damage:
drained block with two valves at bottom of block
drained power steering fluid cooler by removing hose
drained manifolds by removing lower hose from each
drained water pump on front of motor by removing hose
lowered drive, probed all holes, checked for water in drive oil
I also removed the thermostat cover and thermostat and ran the pink RV antifreeze through the thermostat housing, two gallons total. I let the pink stuff come out each drain plug and then closed them all back up.
Basically, I followed the owners manual procedure which came with the boat.
Anything I may have missed where water may have collected? Do I need to worry about the antifreeze backing up in the manifolds and getting into the exhaust ports at all, or is this impossible based on what I did? (I have read about fluid getting into exhaust ports via the manifolds but I don't understand how this works).
I ran into one problem, specifically with the thermostat housing. I'll make a seperate post on that issue. in short, i have a six-hose housing, the thermostat was nearly impossible to remove, and I don't seem to have a spacer or O-ring the way the manual depicts. I don't know if I need to replace the housing.
