I just had all new bellows and shiftcable installed and I need a slight adjustment. It goes into forward fine, but it does not go into reverse easily.there is too much klunking before it goes in and I am a pretty good shifter as far as not shifting too slowly.I cant recall how to adjust the cable.Any help would be appreciated .Charlie

Re: mercruiser cable adjustment

that adjustment has to be just right. Take the shift cable brass barrel out of the hole it sits in and rotate it to the right or push it away from you .You want to make it so it goes a little further toward the starboard side .,I would probably turn it two full revolutions .Write down exactly which way you went and how many turns .If that does not work go 1 more until the reverse. works .You will know you went two far if the reverse works and the forward does not
