Mercruiser Conversion

I have a boat with the old OMC Stringer. I am looking to upgrade to a Mercruiser unit. I have access to an Alpha one stern. I already have a transom assembly/gimbal housing off a Pre-Alpha. Is there any difference in the transom between the Alpha One and Pre-Alpha? I know the sterns themselves are made different.

Ayuh,... The Hole is the same,...
The assemblies themselves are somewhat different... I prefer the Alpha unit...

Rebuilding the transom, right???

Everything will be rebuild when put together, transom, gimbal housing and stern drive.
