Mercruiser Drive Issues-Help

My 165mercruiser seems to pop out of gear at 1100 or 1200 RPM. I replaced the prop after several people told me I had spun a prop hub. This changed nothing. I also was told that if the engine and prop turn and cools fine at idle or low RPM, then the main hub should be fine.
I don't know what to check next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

May be because the shift cable is out of adjustment because it's worn out (they just don't fall out of adjustment) and won't allow it to go all the way into gear anymore. After a few times of popping out of gear, the shift dogs round over and you have to replace the gears and shift dog.
