Re: Mercruiser electrical problem, no ignition

So for a 370 engine, is there no slave solenoid
It's a 470, not 370, and no there is not a slave solenoid. Just the one ypu pictued.

Also, what is the item on the far left in the picture with all the wires, is that a water pump?
That is a water cooled voltage regulator for the off the wall charging system designed for those engines.

Could the water in my boat have shorted out the starter and/or the solenoid?
Sure, anything is possible. Just how deep did the water actually get? Over the starter?

When you make your voltage measurements, you need to do them while you are trying to start.

If water got over your starter...time for a new starter.

Oh, so all those reading need to be while someone has the key turned like they are trying to start? I was not doing that.

Yes, I'm pretty sure water was over the starter and the solenoid.

I don't need those readings with the switch on, I just wanted to see if you had 12 V down to where your main power is picked up for your engine.
You may have a bad maain harness connection (Round 10 pin plug on engine) that causes your gauge to show 10 V. All you have to do now is check your main red wire on your ignition switch to see what voltage you have there. It should also be 12 V.
For starting, when the key is turned to start, do
you have power going to that short yellow cable going to the starter?
Since the starter was under water, and the solenoid, I wouldn't be surprised if they both are bad.

I'll do those tests Don, thanks.

Assuming the solenoid and starter are bad, where can I find a replacement solenoid and I guess I need to find someone locally to rebuild the starter.
