Got the 3.0 litre in and lined up now and I think its time to fire it up, just to spur myself on and so the other half that I am actually doing something with it. This may be a silly question but, there is no obvious connection pionts for the battery. So my thoughts were to go straight to the pos terminal on the starter and put an earth to the block. Looking at the wires on the starter they appear to be untouched and there are lots of them going into the loom via the main plug so I was thinking that the feed will allready in place via the starter up to the ignition switch, any thoughts

Yep - positive to starter, negative to block.
