For those of you that have pulled a mercruiser (120,140, 165, 470, mines a 165) engine from their Nineteen. When you pulled the engine. did you pull the manifold 1st? Or can you leave the manifold in place and still gain enough clearance (top of riser is under the cap and is only a 1/2'' or so to the underside of the cap to lift up for clearance) to lift the engine off the rear motor mounts , shift the engine fwd. (or boat backwards) and remove the engine?

My goal here is R&Ring the oil pan.

so that others know, i'll answer my own question..

yes, the engine can be pulled as an assembly. manifold and all... pretty tight but doable for sure..

Re: mercruiser engine removal?

yep, still here db. was a busy week last week. had a little work so as to make a living and did my R&R the pan thing last week in my back yard. all went well, 3 days to do it. one to disconnect everything, one day to pull the engine, R&R the pan and put it back where i found it. one day to put it all back together again. oh, + it rained somewhere in all that while the engine was loose hanging by the hoist and no great way to cover it up.
been raining here a lot lately. flooding even in our local rivers. most are at flood stage or above.

also went out on sunday. water test ya know. all went well and i seem to have stopped my leaky oil pan. it was a rust pin hole in the old pan, just behind the drain plug. i did have a new experience on sunday though. i got hailed on. that sure made others run the boat ramp. myself, i went full enclosed (aft curtain deployed) and watched everyone else run. sure was fun. the hail wasn't to big. pea size.

+, some of the questions others are posting about their boats i don't know the answer to. i don't like to comment unless i have something worthwhile (hopefully) to say. unfortunately. i may be finding out about how to do fiberglass repair and foam on a nineteen sometime in the future. i need to weight my boat, but i'm pretty convinced that i'm retaining water. my ft. engine mount lag bolts were rusty. i used new ones i had on hand, same bolt and the port one didn't torque down to good. so i'm treading on thin ice i think. i need to find out more about what's under the liner to mount the ft. lag bolts too. i think a board glassed to the bottom of the liner, but ain't sure, but i think in the end, somethings gonna have to be done.

A rust pin hole in the oil pan! Whoda Thunk It??? Truth is stranger than fiction. Just when I thought I'd heard everything, something new crops up. There must have been some rust on the pan when it was painted new at the factory. And it took all these years to finally eat through the pan. Good job getting that done despite mother nature's best attempt to foil your plan. No leaks under there now? Did you find anything interesting in the pan? Did you run into anything that needs to be fixed behind the engine in your transom? And how much stuff got broke during the R&R? (thats code-speak for how many beers do I need to bring for supervisory duty).
