mercruiser engine swap question

If a boat has twin mercruiser 470 or 485 or 488 engines, can the engines be replaced with the Mercruiser 3.0 liter motors? Aren’t the mercruiser 470/485/488 the true mercruiser engines that were put out by mercruiser…(the engines had ford parts in them though).

What would it take to swap them out and put in the 3.0 liter motors? Are the rear mounts different? Is the positioning of the front mount different?

Re: mercruiser engine swap question

Ok, I didn't get any responses to this and a lot of people have looked at it.. Am I incorrect that the mercruiser 470, 485, and 488 engines are the 4 cylinder motors that were made by mercruiser (not chevy blocks) ?

The 470, 485, and 488 engines are the 4 cylinder engines made by Mercrusier with the 460 Ford head. They are 3.7L engines.
The 3.0L engine is the Chevy engine.

Re: mercruiser engine swap question

3.8's (or maybe 4.3 2BBL) or 250 cube six cylinder would be the proper replacement power-wise and outdrive ratio-wise. A 3.0 is at least 25 HP less per engine.
Either way I believe you are getting into changing transom shields for the proper bellhousing mount dimension....
