Mechanic swaped 3.0 omc engine to a 3.0 mercruiser with the omc cobra outdrive. Took it out and it wouldnt go into reverse. Noticed the shift cable housing was broken right before the outdrive so we replaced the shift cable and had to adjust the linkage as much as possible and finally got it to shift into reverse, but now right back to no reverse after taking it out. I know the linkage mount is on the top of the mercruiser instead of the side of the engine like the omc. Does anyone know of any possible way to adjust the linkage or if it can even be done with a mercruiser engine to omc outdrive?

There is a tutorial on the Mercruiser site that will show you the correct way to adjust the linkage.

Even to an omc cobra outdrive? It was a 3.0 omc engine, but the mechanic we used put a mercruiser 3.0 engine in, but kept the cobra outdrive and now it seems that the cable just won't push far enough back in to the outdrive to shift it in reverse.

Sorry, my bad for some reason I thought the OMC engine was on a Merc platform.
Get a genuine OMC service manual. Crowley Marine has them and also a good stock of parts.
