Mercruiser Exhaust Elbow Fittings - 45 degree angle or straight?

1995 305 V8.

I just replaced my exhaust elbows with a new set and I don't recall if I had the straight elbow fitting to the hose or the 45 degree angle fitting on the old set. Does it make a difference which fitting I use on the new set?

The 45 degree fitting runs about $34-$50 online and the stright fitting is $10 or so.

Put the hose that hook to the fitting, up near the riser and see which it needs.
