mercruiser fuel filter?

I own a 1991 v/8 mercruiser with a alpha one drive.my problem is that in order to start it i have to throttle up,it starts fine but i shouldnt have to advance the throttle to do it.im thinking fuel filter,which i dont know how to remedy,any help would be apppreciated.

Isn't that a carbed motor? Very normal to have to pump it or high idle it when cold.
What is your starting procedure? Do you move the throttle to full forward then pull it back a little to set the choke then turn the key to start?

Yea, unless its injected you need to start it like described above, maybe even a few pumps.

Yes I push the handle foreward but I have to do it every time,hot or cold.
