How do I find out what a certain part # is intended for?

63780 A1 is the number - a gauge package for a Mercruiser but how do I tell if it is intended for a 4, 6, or 8 cylinder? Or - are they adjustable so that it should work with any # of cylinders?

Ayuh,... Other than changing the setting on a tach,...
Gauges don't care how many cylinders are in a motor...

Yes, but is the tach adjustable? Many automotive tachs can be changed from 4 to 6 to 8 cylinders. Is the same true of the Mercruiser tach?

Yep. There is a rotary switch on the back of the tach to turn to whatever you got...

no - those 1960's merc gauge kits had to be ordered with the proper tach

if I had to guess, A1 would be 4 cyl, A2 would be 6 cyl, and A3 would be 8 cyl tach... but that is a guess

if you have the tach - flip it over and look -it will be stamped # cyl

if you're shopping - ask the seller

Therein lies the problem. Seller has no idea. Cannot compare with my boat as it is about 200 miles away.

if the seller is not willing to flip it over and read it, shop elsewhere.... they're old parts, but not actually that rare.

I'm guessing he is just not knowledgable about things like this. I may have to go and have a look.
