I?m rebuilding a Mercruiser 454, Gen V and it is a reverse rotation motor. Everyone tells me that I must use a ?reverse rotation rear main crank seal? for this motor because of its rotation. Now I have looked for 3 days and the only ?reverse rotation crank seals? I can find are for Gen 4, 454?s. Nothing for a Gen 5 except the standard.
Is there such a thing for a Gen 5? And if so, where do I get one?

Re: Mercruiser guru ? reverse rotation

you actually need 2 of them, rear crankshaft and timing cover.
To be reverse rotation you are gear driven and not chain driven?

Yes you are right and I found one for the timing cover.
It is gear driven and the rest of the motor matches. I'm double checking #'s tonight but it all checks out so far. It's one of a set of twin 454s out of a inboard boat.
