Yes in my case, the timing chains in the front are covered for a plastic cover with a sensor, the problem is I cannot see any connector in the harness to connect this sensor

That sensor is called a crankshaft position sensor which your engine model doesn't utilize that sensor even tough it came installed new from GM not Mercruiser....But you need to leave the sensor installed to use as a plug to avoid an oil leak.

so why the sensor was present in the original engine???
do you know the time I spent looking for the same cover with the hole for that sensor.????
haha ok, at least the plug (sensor) didn't cost money.
