Have an 87 3.0litre with interrupt switch mounted on top of aluminum valve cover..(switch meters shorted all the time and motor starts well with out it)tried to optain another switch...Mercruiser no longer supplies these...Had to get a $103 conversion/plate kit with a plunger type switch..WILL NOT FIT..even tried taking parts off new plate to mate to valve cover...NO GO...would have to drill
2 new holes in valve cover for switch to be positioned correctly ...contacted mercruiser dealer/shop that I bought kit from..Mechanic there said he had never mated one to a 3.0...just a V8...Has anyone had to do this yet or is there anywhere I can get the old style switch?....(I am checking with McGill-manufacturer of switch to see if I could optain one there)....Thanks as usual for any help....Pete

Re: Mercruiser Interrupt switch kit

Thanks Haut...I just queried Ebay on overall search and boat part search...no luck!....just the plunger style switch pulled up...I have the roller type switch that slides off cam...Any more suggestions appreciated...It amazes me that Mercruiser did not provide a "direct fit" adapter for the 3.0...They STILL make them!......Pete

The service bulletin pertaining to this says that for units with the shift plate mounted on the aluminum rocker cover ..... an alternative mounting location must be used.Maybe you could relocate it to the transom.
