mercruiser lower unit #1 R how to

hello everybody
i am servicing the lower unit:'( my mercruiser v8 228 model 1978.
it' s impossible to find out how to take out the pinion gear at the bottom of the drive saft and pull out the drive saft.i ve already unscrewed
the pinion gear's nut but i can't pull the drive saft out.
Please help!

Clamp the driveshaft in a vice (pad the jaws)

give a rap or two down on the housing.

thanks a lot DHP.Actually i did the same but instead of vice i used my hand.i hope with the vice i ll have a better result and not wouund the housing or the gear since it seems to be really stuck.

Put blocks of wood between the shaft and vise,and a piece of 2 x 4 on the case.I've never had to damage one yet.

I did it! but i prefered to use an old car's jack beteween
the vice and the vice and the housing instead of giving some raps.thanks for your help DHP!
