I have read that the engine oil to be used in my mercruiser 4.3L should be SAE 40 and have the letters S/F in the spec. I have found this silkolene oil for sale online and was wondering if someone could advise me on whether it would be ok to use?

2 x SILKOLENE RACELUBE 40 (sae40) 4 litre TINS OF 4 STROKE RACING ENGINE OIL. This is high quality 4 stroke API SF / CD.

Re: Mercruiser oil change

My 1990 owners book calls for SAE 30. Use oils of today with a good API rating. SF is old skool. Use like SJ, SL, SM. If it has a commerical rating it is even better.

Synthetic is OK too if you use one with a group III, III+, or PAO base stock. Avoid oils with POE bases as they will turn acidic with moisture and water.

Visit www.bobistheoilguy.com and sign up. You will learn more than you ever wanted about oil.
