1992 GenII Alpha/ 4.3 V6.
Trying to align it, but no matter what, the bar collides with the bottom edge of the coupler splines. I can lift and lower the front mounts and change the angle of collision, and I got the bores parallel that way, but cannot see how to lower the rear of the engine.
I can get the bar in with firm pressure, but there is steady friction on the lower 1/3.
Any thoughts?
My rear mounts are new with new hardware.
The transom is rock solid. Whole boat is as solid as new.
Do I need to run it a while to get the rubber to settle and then align ?

just start it and lightly tap bar handle ithe 4 sides and that lines the bearing . at least earlier mercs are that way.you will feel it move.

Ayuh,... The Gimbel Bearing is double raced,+ swivels like your Eyeball,....
Stick the Bar in,+ wiggle it around,.. You'll see what I mean...
Are the new rear mounts fully seated,+ everything stacked in the right order,..??

bondo is right, rear mounts have to be tight very important, then adjust the front.

well...after 5 solid hours of frustration....

I'm pulling the engine and changing the coupler and bellhousing.
I'm suspicious my bellhousing is wonky.

When I first got this boat, the port side rear mount was cranked down so tight that I broke a 1/2" extension trying to remove it.

I think it was cranked down that tight in some previous tech's attempt to align. Or maybe a Bayliner employee even did that.... doesn't look like the engine was ever out before.
