This one is Mercury only. But parts from a 1965 Chevy II Nova will fit like wires, points.

Go to your local NAPA store.....
Ask for the Latest NAPA Marine Products Catalog.....
It'll be either Free, Or the list price on it is $6.95........
It's a Good Catalog, with Much Info.......

I've got # MSP-7, dated March 2002.....
There Might be a Newer one.....

besides needing points plugs and wires i also was wondering if a water pump off of a 4 cyl chevy would fit, the boat i have has been sitting for seven years and ive got it about ready to go on the water, just want to make sure all my bases are covered.

Re: mercruiser serial numbers

You cant use a waterpump off a car. Marine have bronze impeller and ceramic seals and stainless steel back plates. You will need to replace the impeller in the outdrive.

Go to your NAPA autoparts store and give them these numbers... 18-8800 Wires, 18-5250 Is tune up kit. (points, rotor, cond.) If you want a dist. cap with it order 18-5268.

You will need to pull the outdrive and grease the u-joints, gimble bearing and grease the drive shaft. Remove the propeller and grease the propshaft. Change the oil in the lower unit. You will need the gasket set to pull the outdrive and the part number for it is 18-2614.

Cap'n Mike

Be very very careful putting automotive parts in a marine environment. They are not the same safety wise. Most all marine electrical parts are sealed so potential sparks are less likely to ignite vapors. In fact, automotive parts are prohibitted in some states and you could not pass a marine inspection with them.

Start a new thread of your own, don't just jump on the end of a 5 year old post and hope someone sees your question.
